Blue Guardian is a forex prop firm whose simulated trading platforms are provided by Blue Guardian Limited, based in Saint Lucia, with a marketing company, Blue Guardian Marketing LLC, in Dubai. On the forex side it sells three Standard programs (1 Step, 2 Step and Instant) plus cheaper Nano versions of the 1 Step and 2 Step, traded on MT5, TradeLocker or Match-Trader. It also runs futures programs, which this review doesn't cover.

What sets the model apart is how much automatic risk control sits on the funded account. A feature called Guardian Shield closes funded trades at a 2% floating loss, a 2-minute minimum hold rules out tick scalping, and funded accounts can't open or close trades around high-impact news. The daily loss limit is also measured from the higher of balance or equity at the reset, so open profit counts.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • The 2 Step Standard uses a static 8% maximum drawdown, so the floor stays put as your account grows.
  • The 1 Step Standard profit target is 9% for accounts bought from August 20, down from 10%.
  • Overnight and weekend holding are allowed, and expert advisors are permitted.
  • No news restriction while you're in a challenge phase.
  • Payout requests are processed within 24 business hours, and Instant Standard accounts can request payouts on demand.
  • Three platform choices: MT5, TradeLocker and Match-Trader.

Cons

  • Every account shows a current price next to a struck-through one during a site-wide promotion, and the regular price couldn't be confirmed.
  • The 1 Step Standard and Instant Standard drawdowns trail the account until it's 6% in profit.
  • Guardian Shield closes funded trades at a 2% floating loss (1% on Instant), which can end a trade before a wider stop is reached.
  • On funded accounts, profits from trades opened or closed within 5 minutes of high-impact news or FOMC events can be removed.
  • Rules for the Nano programs, and the consistency and leverage rules for 1 Step and 2 Step Standard, couldn't be confirmed from the pages checked.

Who Blue Guardian suits

Blue Guardian fits a forex trader who holds positions for hours or days, keeps each loss small and wants freedom over when to trade. Weekend and overnight holding are allowed, EAs are permitted, and news isn't restricted while you're still in a challenge.

It's a weaker match for scalpers and for traders who give losing positions a lot of room. The 2-minute minimum hold works against very short trades, and Guardian Shield closes funded trades at a 2% floating loss, half the 4% daily limit on the 1 Step and 2 Step Standard. If your method depends on sitting through a deep drawdown, those two rules matter more than the profit target.

Copy traders face one limit. Copying is only allowed between accounts you legally own, so mirroring trades from someone else's account isn't permitted.

How the daily loss limit and drawdown actually work

Take a $100,000 1 Step Standard account. The daily loss limit is 4% of the initial balance, so $4,000. It resets at 5pm EST and is counted from whichever is higher at that moment, your balance or your equity.

That last detail catches people. Say you end the day with a closed balance of $101,000 and an open trade showing $1,500 of profit at 5pm. Equity is $102,500, so the next day's floor is $98,500. If that trade then gives back its gain, it eats into the daily allowance before you've placed anything new.

The maximum drawdown on this account is 6% and trailing. The floor starts at $94,000 and moves up as the account makes new highs, until you're 6% in profit at $106,000. From then on it locks at the $100,000 starting balance. Check in the help center whether the trail follows closed balance or equity, because that decides whether open profit lifts the floor.

Instant Standard uses the same 6% trailing drawdown with a tighter daily limit of 3% of the initial balance. The 2 Step Standard is easier to plan around: its 8% maximum drawdown is static, so a $100,000 account has a fixed $92,000 floor next to the $4,000 daily limit. You need $8,000 of profit in Phase 1 and $4,000 in Phase 2.

What it costs, and why prices aren't quoted here

Blue Guardian is running a site-wide promotion, and every account on its site shows two prices: a current one and a higher struck-through one. The page doesn't make clear which of the two is the regular price outside the promotion. For that reason this review doesn't quote either, and the table above lists prices as not stated.

The pricing page still shows how the programs compare with each other. At every size offered, the Nano versions cost less than the matching Standard programs, and Instant Standard, which has no profit target, costs more than both the 1 Step and 2 Step Standard.

Some costs aren't covered by the pages checked: whether an activation fee applies, and the price of the optional 90% split and 7-day payout add-ons. Use the code shown above and judge the offer by the final total at checkout, not by the struck-through figure.

Payouts and profit split

The 1 Step and 2 Step Standard accounts pay an 85% profit split, with an optional add-on that raises it to 90%. Payouts run every 14 days, or every 7 days with a separate add-on. Blue Guardian says requests are processed within 24 business hours.

Instant Standard accepts a lower base split, 80% with the same 90% add-on, in exchange for on-demand payouts instead of a fixed cycle. Its rules also list 5 profitable days and a 20% consistency rule. Read the Instant Standard article for how that 20% is measured before your first request.

Minimum withdrawals depend on the method: $100 by crypto or $500 through Rise. On a $5,000 account with an 85% split, your share only reaches $500 once profit passes about $590, close to 12% of the account. On small accounts, the $100 crypto minimum is far easier to reach.

Rules that catch traders out, including the August 20 changes

Two rules changed for accounts purchased from August 20. The 1 Step Standard profit target dropped from 10% to 9%, and the 2 Step Standard minimum fell from 5 to 3 trading days, each with at least 0.5% profit. Older accounts keep the earlier terms, so check your purchase date before planning around the new numbers.

News is the next trap. On funded accounts you can't open or close trades from 5 minutes before to 5 minutes after high-impact (red folder) news and FOMC events, and profits from trades that break the rule can be removed. The rule covers closing as well as opening, so think about where your stops and targets sit before a major release.

Guardian Shield closes funded trades automatically at a 2% floating loss, or 1% on Instant accounts. On a $100,000 account, that's $2,000 of floating loss on a Standard account and $1,000 on Instant. A stop placed wider than that won't be what closes the trade.

Two more points: the 2-minute minimum hold aimed at tick scalping, and the consistency and leverage rules for the 1 Step and 2 Step Standard, which couldn't be confirmed from the pages checked. Not finding a rule there doesn't mean it doesn't exist, so read your account's terms.

Which Blue Guardian program fits which trader

1 Step Standard suits a trader who wants a single phase and can reach 9% while the 6% floor trails behind. Once the account is 6% up, the floor locks at the starting balance, so the pressure is highest early on.

2 Step Standard is the more forgiving option on drawdown. The 8% floor never moves, the targets are 8% and 4%, and the minimum dropped to 3 qualifying days for new accounts. It suits traders who expect a losing stretch before the profits arrive.

Instant Standard is for traders who want to skip the evaluation and can live with tighter terms: a 3% daily limit, a 6% trailing drawdown, 1:30 maximum leverage, the 20% consistency rule and a 1% Guardian Shield. The Nano programs are cheaper, but their rules couldn't be confirmed, so read their terms before buying one.

Verdict

Blue Guardian makes most sense for a forex trader who holds positions for hours or days, keeps each loss small and wants weekend holding and EAs allowed. Of its programs, the 2 Step Standard is the easiest to plan around because its drawdown is static. Skip the firm if you scalp, trade news once funded or rely on wide stops, because the 2-minute hold, the news window and Guardian Shield all work against those styles. And since the regular price isn't clear, compare offers on the checkout total.

It’s an automatic risk control on funded accounts. It closes funded trades at a 2% floating loss, or at 1% on Instant accounts.
